Ryan Warsofsky Sends Strong Message To William Eklund Following 5-2 Loss To Wild

William Eklund was demoted to the fourth line during the San Jose Sharks 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, and head coach Ryan Warsofsky had a strong message for the winger postgame.

“Need more from Eky,” Warsofsky said. “Impact the game. Somehow. Someway. He knows that. We’ve talked about it. We’re going to continue to work with him [and] help him get through this.”

Eklund was initially skating on the Sharks’ second line with Alexander Wennberg and Fabian Zetterlund but began the third period with Nico Sturm and Carl Grundstrom.

In 15:21 of ice time, Eklund finished -1 and didn’t record a shot on goal. He also had 1:55 of powerplay time, but the Sharks went 0 for three on the man advantage in the game.

According to Natural Stat Trick, Eklund was on the ice for six scoring chances against, two of which were considered high danger, and four scoring chances for, one of which was considered high danger.

Eklund has one goal and one assist in his last five games, leaving the head coach wanting more. San Jose is about to begin a four-game road trip to the East Coast, and the winger will be looked at to get his game on the right track.
