Sabres Should Extend Surging Forward Right Now
The Buffalo Sabres made several additions to their roster this off-season, with none being more significant than forward Jason Zucker. The 32-year-old has thrived since joining the Sabres, posting 14 goals, 30 points, and a plus-5 rating in 39 games. This is after he had 14 goals and 32 points in 69 games last season, split between the Arizona Coyotes and Nashville Predators.

Zucker is not showing a single sign of slowing down, either. In fact, he is only getting better as the campaign rolls on. The 2010 second-round pick has six goals and nine points over his last six contests. This includes recording a hat trick and an assist in the Sabres’ last game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Given how wonderfully Zucker has played for the Sabres, there is no question that he is making a serious case for a contract extension. The only Sabre with more goals and points than Zucker at this juncture of the season is star center, Tage Thompson. Thus, Zucker has become a crucial part of the Sabres’ offense.
Another major reason whe Sabres should consider extending Zucker is his high level of experience. The Sabres need veterans who can help mentor their younger players as they look to take that next step, and the 5-foot-11 forward fits that description.
It will be fascinating to see if the Sabres and Zucker can agree on an extension, but Buffalo should seriously consider pursuing it.
