Sabres Should Make Big Push for Blues Forward

The Buffalo Sabres have had a busy offseason, but it is fair to argue that they would benefit by making one more addition. When looking at their forward group, it is clear that they could use some help at the left wing. With most of this year’s top free agents finding new homes, the Sabres’ best options are likely through the trade market.

When looking at potential trade targets heading into the 2024-25 season, one intriguing player who could make sense as an option for the Sabres is St. Louis Blues forward Brandon Saad.

Saad, 31, created some buzz earlier this summer when he was rumored to be available for trade. While the Blues have yet to move him, the potential for that to occur before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline is there. If the Blues find themselves out of a playoff spot again this campaign, it could open the door for them to listen to offers for him.

With the Sabres needing a boost in their middle six, Saad would have the potential to be an excellent addition to their group. During this past season with the Blues, the 2011 second-round pick posted 26 goals and 42 points. With numbers like these, he would surely give the Sabres more scoring and be a nice addition to their power play.

Another nice element about Saad is that he would be more than a rental, as he carries a $4.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season. However, he also has a full no-trade clause, so he would need to give the green light for any move, whether to the Sabres or any other club.

Nevertheless, with the Sabres needing more offense, they should seriously keep an eye on Saad this season.
