Scotland: Bizzare lava-like rock spotted burning in field; pics go viral – Times of India
Pictures of a deep split in a Scottish field have revealed a bizarre underground blaze, which worried locals and left netizens in shock.
The footage revealed a red-hot burning rock and plumes of smoke in the field closed to caravan park in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Tom Paton, a local resident took to Facebook and shared a few details of the unnatural phenomena. He also uploaded a video of the same and a few pictures wherein the molten rock is clearly visible through a patch of scorched grass, despite frigid temperatures in the area.
In his post, Paton termed this red-hot burning rock as a “burning field”. It is a serious risk to life.
“It’s concerning for wildlife and for people who go up there with their dogs because if you don’t already know it’s there then it isn’t too obvious to see. The smell is potent, but the actual hole in the ground is well hidden until you’re right on it,” Paton told The Herald.
“It is difficult to believe that the Scottish Coal Board had fenced the area with just two pieces of wire as a precaution”, he mentioned.
“I don’t understand how it’s been like this for at least three years and not much attempt to extinguish it has happened as of yet” Paton added in his post.
According to Paton, the field has been burning for over three years. He further asserted that maybe some media attention could force the authorities to tackle the situation.
After his post went viral, other locals have also shown their concern over the major issue. Many expressed their worries about the locals while others demanded immediate action on the issue.
