Scotland fan completes mammoth 1000-mile trek to Germany to incredible reception

Tartan Army footsoldier Craig Ferguson completed his mammoth walk all the way to Germany for the Euros to a rapturous reception from fellow Scotland fans.

The 20-year-old embarked on the gruelling 1000-mile trek 41 days ago and has spent that time passing through Europe until reaching his final destination where he will cheer on Steve Clarke’s side at Euro 2024. He reached the end point in Munich this morning and the Tartan Army turned out in their numbers to welcome him and cheer him on for the final few steps.

Videos show the determined Scot finishing his pilgrimage surrounded by fellow supporters who cheered loudly and sprayed him with alcohol. An emotional Craig sunk to his knees and fist pumped as he continued to gain the adulation of those gathered around him before a pal gives him a hug and hands over a well earned bottle of beer.

In an interview with Clyde One, he said: “Incredible, I mean look at this. I was saying there ‘I think this is officially my 15 minutes of fame because this is incredible.’ Honestly, thank you so much to everyone who has come don’t because the support means the absolute world to me. What a response. The welcome was more than I could have hoped for.

“Honestly, I’m not even just saying this but moment that kept me going were just digging deep and thinking about the finish line, thinking about moments like this. Saying ‘what’s it going to be like at the finish line?’ But literally having the full of Scotland’s support back home as well, it’s hard to not get the job don when you’ve got a full country back home supporting you.”

Asked how his legs were feeling, he smiled: “A bit tired. I’m a wee bit shaky! But I think with the support from everyone I could have kept going because that’s what it’s meant to be.”

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton has explained why he senses Scotland have a big opportunity when the face Germany in the opening game but warned it is NOT a free hit.
