Scotland fan goes for Clarke as ‘I like my money’ quip branded slap in the face

A stewing Scotland fan let rip in an impassioned radio rant over our Euro 2024 misfire and claimed Steve Clarke scored a major own goal with his post-match quip.

The national team boss was emotional as he let rip at referee Facundo Tello for turning down a massive penalty shout for Stuart Armstrong in the second half of Sunday’s heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Hungary at Euro 2024. But it was his joking sign off which left Scotland fan Alistair furious. Clarke said: “It’s a penalty kick, why is it not given? I need an answer, I need to know why it’s not given, it’s a penalty kick. I’ve got words for it, but I like my money, so.”

But, the Tartan Army supporter wasn’t amused and let rip at Clarke much to the shock of Darren Bent and Sam Matterface. Speaking on talkSPORT, the punter said: “Just what Steve Clarke said, putting it in the hands of the footballing gods, he’s the one that sourced the team. It’s not the gods, it’s tactics – he basically picked 25 wrong players. At the end of it, to moan about a penalty, VAR, so what, get up, play to the whistle. Romelu Lukaku has had three goals knocked off, hey ho, play on.

“But for him (Clarke) to turn around and say he’s not going to say too much because he likes his money, If I was the Tartan Army going out there and paying thousands following those muppets, I would have something to say. He summed it up and hopefully his resignation is going in now.”

Scotland have failed to exit a group once more and now face a mammoth rethink on what must change if they are to arrest a run which shows no signs of abating.
