Scotland’s most loyal fan has driven to Germany in a battered 58-year-old camper van – and he doesn’t even have a ticket for Friday night’s match.

Father of two John Falkirk, 44, has driven his battered VW van – built in 1966 – and parked up outside the team’s HQ. On the way he’s already met Trainspotting, Star Wars, Blackhawk Down and Moulin Rouge star Ewan McGregor, and Charley Boorman.

He videoed McGregor saying: “All right Scotland – Good luck in the Euros”. John said: “Incredibly I met Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman when I got off the ferry in Amsterdam.

“They were on their motorbikes – both really nice blokes. The van is fantastic but I had to take it very slowly coming down.

“I drove to Newcastle and then got the ferry to Amsterdam. The van is nicknamed “Elvis” as, from the front, it looks like it’s got a quiff.”

John, who is from Falkirk, added: “I’ve got a very understanding ex-wife! She looked after the kids and allowed me to come and I’m really looking forward to it.

“Now I just want to get a ticket. I’ve managed to get two for the other games but so far it’s impossible to get one for Germany.”

Meanwhile, 50 years ago Scotland fan Andy Cramb was photographed as part of the Tartan Army at a World Cup match in Germany.
