Scotland latest: SNP predicted to lose 33 seats

The SNP is expected to collapse to just 10 seats in Scotland, according to the exit poll.

Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister and SNP leader, admitted it would represent a poor result for the party, in a blow to its dominance north of the border in almost a decade.

Before the election, the SNP held 43 seats, having won 48 in the 2019 general election under Ms Sturgeon’s leadership.

However, exit polls tend to be less accurate in Scotland, meaning that the nationalist party may end up gaining or losing more seats when the final results come in.

“This is not a good night for the SNP on these numbers,” Ms Sturgeon told ITV News.

“I think there will be a question about whether there was enough in the campaign to give out, effectively, a USP to the SNP in an election that was about getting the Tories out and replacing them with Labour.”
