Scotland to brace for Atlantic storm as maps show rain wall across entire UK

New weather maps show a wall of rain the length of the UK is to arrive next week.

Data published by Ventusky weather service indicates a major area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic that will span from as north as Wick in Scotland, all the way down to London on Saturday, July 20, bringing more wet weather. While projections don’t indicate how much rain is set to fall right now, it looks like it will be a wet weekend across Britain.

Maps show the weather system spread across most of Scotland, with the far west narrowly missing out, reaching its peak at 7pm. Prior to this, maps indicate clear conditions and temperatures averaging at 14C.

It comes as Scotland has experienced a mix summer-weather wise, flipping between bouts of sunshine and grim rain. Separate forecasters anticipate this pattern continuing for the rest of the month.

The Met Office also predicts more unsettled conditions in the north of the UK at this time in its long range forecast, which spans from July 17 until July 26.

It reads: “This period will likely start with low pressure nearby to the northwest, bringing unsettled weather and spells of rain to at least the north and west of the UK, while the southeast sees the greatest chance of dry and fine conditions persisting for longer.

“Through the weekend and beyond, confidence is relatively low but the most likely outcome is for weather systems to move across the country from the west, with northern and western areas typically wettest and a greater chance of dry conditions prevailing in the southeast.

“There is, however, a smaller chance for either unsettled weather to be more widely prevalent, or for a more quiescent period to develop across the south. Overall, temperatures will likely be near normal, but may feel cool in the west at times.”
