Scotland ‘trying to adopt Kylian Mbappe’ as fans spotted with bizarre flag

SCOTLAND don’t quite need a miracle to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024.

But Kylian Mbappe would go some way to making that dream a reality.

Steve Clarke‘s men lost 5-1 to hosts Germany on Friday night and now need to secure two positive results against Switzerland and Hungary to give themselves a shot at the last 16.

And in the event Scotland finish third in the group, they’ll need to improve their goal differential to ensure a spot as one of the best third-placed teams.

The France and Real Madrid superstar would go some way to helping correct that, which is why some punters have been spotted trying to ‘adopt’ him for Scotland.

A saltire was spotted in the crowd during Les Bleus’ 1-0 win over Austria, in which the crucial goal came via an own goal from an Mbappe cross.

The flag had a bizarre picture of Mbappe wearing a ‘See you Jimmy’ hat, and with the nickname ‘McBappe’.

On the flag were the words ‘Kylian McBappe Tartan Army‘.

It’s unknown whether the fan in question is French or Scottish, but photos have emerged showing him wearing a France top.

One viewer posted a picture of the moment the TV cameras captured the supporter and his unique flag.

He said: “Kylian Mbappe’s shown on a Scotland flag.”

Others joked about how the Tartan Army are trying to claim the 25-year-old forward as one of their own.

One commented: “Scotland fans are trying to adopt Kylian Mbappe!”

Another said: “Kylian McBappe is a part of the Tartan Army.”

But for one supporter, he reckons the nickname needs a bit of work.

“McBappe sounds like something on the McDonald’s breakfast menu,” they said.

The flag was also spotted on the streets of Düsseldorf, with the game being played in the city‘s Merkur Spiel-Arena.

The man behind the flag had it draped around his shoulders and was walking with another fan in a France home shirt, with whom he also sat next to in the stadium.
