Scotland weekend weather as experts warn ‘rethink your definition of summer’

The summer of 2024 has been unusually cold and damp – even for Scotland – and forecasters say the gloomy weather won’t let up this weekend.

Those hoping to see a sunny and warm day will be disappointed. BBC Scotland Weather says the mercury will hit 17 or 18C “if you’re lucky” today, with Friday set to be a blustery day and Scots in the north feeling a “little bit raw” in the cold and wind.

As we move into Saturday, temperatures won’t heat up, but on the bright side, the Met Office says showers will ease on Saturday with mostly dry conditions and sunny spells on Sunday.

BBC Scotland Weather wrote on X today: “Good morning! Looking for summer weather? You might have to rethink your definition of ‘summer’…”

In her latest report, presenter Kirsty McCabe said: “It doesn’t quite feel like summer yet. For many of us, it’s going to be quite a windy day with frequent blustery showers. Now the winds ease a touch into the afternoon and there will be sunny spells between the showers.

“In the south maybe 17 or 18C if you’re lucky. But further norther just 12 to 14 degrees and feeling a little bit raw in that wind. Now we have frequent showers here – some of them could be heavy – and possibly the odd rumble of thunder into the afternoon.”

From there, most of the showers will fade through evening, leading into a cool and breezy day on Saturday. Kirsty added: “Mostly dry in the south, showers in the far north and west, temperatures disappointing for late June.”
