Scotland’s ‘best fish and chip shop’ is by beach just 20 minutes from Edinburgh

The “best fish and chip shop” in Britain has been crowned, and it is a stone’s throw away from a picturesque beach just out of Edinburgh.

The UK is home to thousands of beloved and acclaimed chippies that are scattered all across the nation, however one Scottish eatery has triumphed over them all. With our wealth of high-quality fish, it should be no surprise that a Scots chippy has placed joint first in a new study conducted by Betway.

Despite stiff competition nationwide, East Coast in Musselburgh stands head and shoulders above the rest according to the research. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, the relatively new addition to East Lothian prides itself on offering “Scotland’s best produce and warmest hospitality”.

According to the study, East Coast placed first among the UK’s elite chip shops alongside London’s Fish Lounge. The experts utilised data from TripAdvisor and Google rankings, as well as Instagram hashtags, to compile their list of the top chippies in Britain.

East Coast, situated on Musselburgh’s North High Street, is just a nine-minute stroll from Musselburgh’s Fisherrow Beach. An under-appreciated treasure along Scotland’s breathtaking coastline, it offers spectacular views over the Firth of Forth.

Musselburgh is also conveniently positioned less than six miles outside of the centre of Edinburgh, or just 20 minutes by car. This makes it an ideal day-trip destination for those living in Scotland’s capital.

Recent visitors have described East Coast as “impeccable” and “very tasty”(Image: Google Maps)

With an impressive average rating of 4.5 out of five on TripAdvisor based on more than 100 reviews, East Coast is also very popular amongst visitors. One recent customer even described their experience as “brilliant” in a glowing five-star review.

They wrote: “My hubby and I stopped into East Coast on our way to Northumberland for lunch. The restaurant’s interior is modern with nods to the seaside as you’d expect.

“We ate from the set menu (£22 for two courses) — choosing mussels, fishcakes, prawn calamari and fish with chips. The food was well presented, generous portion size, quick to the table and very tasty.
