Scotland’s ‘best fish & chip shop’ named – and it’s just minutes from major city

THE BEST fish and chips shop in Scotland has been revealed – and it’s just minutes away from a major city.

A new study by Betway has dished out the best chippies up and down the UK, and one in Scotland scooped the top gong.

East Coast in Musselburgh, in East Lothian, ranked joint first alongside London’s Fish Lounge in the impressive list.

The restaurant is a relatively new addition to the area and is just a nine-minute walk from Musselburgh’s Fisherrow Beach.

And it beat off fierce competition from diners up and down the country.

The fish and chip shop, located on the city’s North High Street, boasts that it offers “Scotland’s best produce and warmest hospitality”.

And experts found that it had some of the best reviews on TripAdvisor from delighted customers.

Betway studied data from the review website, Google rankings, and Instagram hashtags to compile their prestigious list.

East Coast had an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars on TripAdvisor with more than 200 reviews.

And it came in as the seventh top restaurant in the area out of 34 venues.

One happy customer wrote: “East Coast has a great reputation – and it’s fully deserved. Their fish is absolutely amazing, and the chips are fab. Never fails to deliver a wonderful meal”.

Another added: “What a lovley restaurant this was, we were having a brief stop over in Musselburgh and looked up local restaurants and wow what a fantastic restaurant.

“Delicious seafood other items were available if fish isn’t your thing. Well worth a vist if you are in the area. The staff were extremely friendly and very efficient, the food was great value for money.”

While a third chimed in: “We are regulars here at this amazing restaurant. We can’t fault anything about the place! The fish and chips definitely are award-winning, they are just incredible.

“The staff are very friendly and helpful and are always happy to help. We are so lucky to have such an amazing restaurant in Musselburgh. If you haven’t been here yet, you have to try it!”

East Coast has been described as an under-appreciated location in East Lothian, which is just outside of Edinburgh.

It sits on the coastline and customers can enjoy spectacular views over the Firth of Forth as they enjoy their food.

It’s just a 20-minute car journey away from Edinburgh or it can be accessed by train.

Two other Scottish fish and chip shops also made the list.
