Scotland’s biggest animation studio collapses with 160 jobs lost

More than 160 jobs have been lost after a Scottish visual effects and animation studio that has worked on Hollywood blockbusters and internationally acclaimed dramas went into administration.

Axis Studios, with a main base in Glasgow and a smaller office in Bristol, had a long history of providing animation and visual effects for the film, television and video game sectors.

It has worked on productions including Doctor Who, the television series, the Harry Potter films and Shaun the Sheep, the children’s comedy series and films.

The Shaun the Sheep Movie was released in 2015, followed by Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon in 2019

Among its recent work was Borderlands, a video game to film adaptation starring Cate Blanchett, the Australian actress, which opens in cinemas in August, and Vigil, the successful BBC crime drama starring Suranne Jones and Rose
