Scots island shop to give away 100 Easter eggs after accidentally ordering 720

A remote Scottish island shop will give away 100 Easter eggs after mistakenly ordering 720 ahead of the holiday.

Sinclair General Stores, located on the Orkney island of Sanday, intended to purchase 80 chocolate eggs in preparation for Easter. Instead, they accidentally bought 80 cases of eggs.

Owner of the store Dan Dafydd revealed that he will now raffle off 100 of the eggs to one lucky winner. The money raised from the unique competition will go towards the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

According to Dafydd, the amount of Easter eggs he ordered far outnumbers Sanday’s population of 500. He commented: “It is mental how it kicked off!

“I imagine everyone is having a good giggle — which is good!”

He explained that he had to preorder the eggs for Easter six months in advance, adding: “I was wanting to order 80 Easter eggs — the deals weren’t great so I wanted to get the bare minimum, and we could always add more when the time gets closer.

“I thought nothing more of it — until the delivery truck turned up two weeks ago with a lorry filled with Easter eggs. You can imagine my surprise, shock and shame as I realised I had messed up and ordered 80 cases — not 80 singular Easter eggs!”

Dafydd and the other workers at Sinclair General Stores decided to utilise the mix-up as a chance to raise money for the RNLI. According to him, the charity is important to many members of Sanday’s community.
