Scots to finally get some sunshine this weekend with temperatures hitting 20C
Sunshine and warmth will arrive right on cue on Saturday as we greet the long-awaited arrival of summer.
At 20C (68F) Glasgow could be the warmest spot in the country, though all parts should see bright spells and temperatures in the high teens.
Sadly, despite high pressure dominating, cloud and showers could put a dampener on the latter part of the weekend, particularly in the north west.
The fourth-wettest spring in Scotland’s history ends on Friday – with the warmth greeting the beginning of June.
Thunderstorms earlier this week brought further torrential downpours but the Met Office say things are drying up as well as warming up for summer.
Particularly on Saturday, families will be stocking up on barbecue staples such as bangers, burgers, beers and buns.
Alex Burkill of the Met Office said: ”Summer is almost here and the weather is going to start to feel a bit more summery as we head through the end of May and beginning of June.
“Currently the jetstream is running across the UK, which is why there is a changeable and unsettled theme.
“However, as we go through the next few days, the jetstream is going to shift itself a little bit east and northwards.
“And that means we are going to end up on the southern side of it, with high pressure going to settle our weather as we go into the weekend.”

Friday sees the start of high pressure exerting its influence on Scotland’s weather, with dry and bright conditions for most.
Saturday will prove the best day of the weekend, as temperatures hover around the 20C mark in the sunshine.
Sunday will be a duller day and showers could creep into the north west for a time.
High pressure sticks around for much of next week and, again, Monday afternoon could be a warm and bright affair.
However, it is possible our close proximity to the high pressure means Scotland may miss out on the warm and sunny spells promised for the south of the UK later next week.
The Met Office will produce their conclusions on spring’s weather on Monday.
