Scottish man suffered severe leg injuries that left him in coma in Poland
A Scottish tourist became seriously ill after he attempted to cool off in some water while on holiday in Poland.
Liam Fullerton, from Dundee, was visiting the country to see his club Dundee FC and Polish side Lech Poznan play a friendly match on July 6.
The 30-year-old suffered severe leg wounds after smashing into rocks when he leapt off a bridge into the water.
Liam was treated for his injuries, which did not include broken bones. After being discharged he was trying to board his flight home on July 14, but became very unwell.

He was rushed back to A&E where it was discovered he had the serious condition sepsis and his boy had gone into shock. Medics also diagnosed Liam with gangrene. He had numerous operations to flush the infection from his body.
These operations were not a success and doctors in Poznan decided to have him airlifted to a hospital that specialised in wound bacteria. He was transported 200 miles away to the hospital in Gdańsk.
His heartbroken mum, Lisa, has since revealed that her son was placed in an induced coma.
She told The Daily Record: “Liam was in Poland last Saturday with friends to watch the Dundee game. To cool down in the hot weather he jumped off a bridge into the water but it was so shallow he either hit the bottom or landed on rocks.
“He was rushed to A&E where he was treated for two nasty wounds to his left leg. After being told he had no broken bones he tried to leave for his flight on Sunday night but unfortunately took unwell and was rushed back into the hospital in Poznan.
“Liam has since become seriously unwell with septic shock and now has gangrene in the wound at the top of his leg, all from the dirty water. He has already had numerous operations to clean it out and stop the infection.
“The course of action was to give Liam hyperbaric oxygen treatment three times a day but after only two sessions his body is struggling, X-rays have since shown the infection has spread to his lungs.
“The only way for Liam to receive this life-saving treatment is to be put in an induced coma. He is critically ill at this moment in time and we are asking, that every one of his friends and ours please please pray for him and keep him in your thoughts.”
She explained: “The hospital in Poznan has been unable to do anymore for him so he was airlifted to a hospital near Gdańsk where they specialise in wound bacteria.
Lisa later confirmed that Liam woke up from the induced coma on Monday.
Lisa continued: “I got in to see Liam this morning. He is currently waiting to go for another operation on his leg, this is to clear any dead tissue and has been happening daily.
“He has another hyperbaric oxygen session to go this afternoon and that should be him finished with treatment. The doctor indicated that infection parameters are far down so this is great news. He is in pain but is being given plenty of painkillers.”
Liam’s football team, Stobswell AFC, sent their support to their player.
