Services sector slowdown halts Scotland’s GDP growth in April

Scotland’s economic growth came to a halt in April 2024, with onshore GDP remaining flat at 0%, according to the chief statistician.

This follows an upwardly revised growth of 0.5% in March.

Growth for the three months to April reached 0.8%, a slight improvement from the 0.7% seen in the first quarter of the year. However, the services sector, which makes up approximately three-quarters of the economy, experienced a 0.1% contraction in April.



This decline was offset by a 1.4% growth in the production sector, with manufacturing output making the largest contribution to overall GDP.
