Sewing Bee fans still can’t believe ‘amazing’ contestant has gone

The Great British Sewing Bee‘s fans are missing their favourite contestant as they shared their disbelief that she hadn’t made the semi-final.

Alex, who had previously been the BBC One series favourite, made a shock departure in last week’s show and viewers felt the show was missing her presence in the design icons week episode.

With three tough challenges inspired by Balenciaga, Gaultier and Chanel to battle through, only three of the remaining sewers could make the final.

The Great British Sewing Bee’s viewers are still reeling from the shock exit of a competition favourite last week.

Many of the show’s fans had expected Alex to sail through to the final, so it was very unexpected to see her go home – and viewers felt she had left a huge hole in the semi-final.

The last four contestants had to take on a tough design icons week, which involved creating high-fashion garments inspired by Balenciaga, Gaultier and Chanel.

As the semi-final kicked off, one viewer commented on X: “When you miss one week of #sewingbee and tune in to see amazing Alex gone.”

Others felt that she was the only contestant who would have been up to this week’s challenges, as someone wrote: “It’s at times like this you need an alex.” Another Alex fan agreed: “I bet Alex could have done this.”

However, Pascha, Luke and Ailsa all managed to get their places in the series final sewn up, leaving Suzy the last one to be ousted after further struggles with getting her creations finished on time.

Suzy said: “I’m a scaredy cat, I’m scared of everything, so to do something like this was such an achievement in itself.”

The contest has certainly seen some eyecatching designs this time – especially in lingerie week where the sewers had to create a shapewear item featuring lace that judge Esme Young said had to be “surprising”.

Contestant Marcus certainly ran with the instruction as he put together a lace tube bulked out with a muscly six-pack and pecs, leaving the show’s stars and viewers astounded.

One viewer commented on X: “This is incredibly unhinged. It looks like Timothee Chalamet playing King Kong.”

Someone else joked: “Hang this in the V&A!!!” while another viewer laughed: “That 6 pack one.” One person added: “What exactly is that fake six pack thing?!”

The Great British Sewing Bee airs on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday.
