SOFLO hockey summer league populated by Ducks

We’ve already highlighted how Jackson LaCombe has been keeping on the ice during the summer by playing in Da Beauty League. A cohort of Ducks players is doing the same down in Florida, playing in the SOFLO Hockey League. The name is a callback to a shortened form of Southern Florida (think of it like SoCal and Southern California)

The league was established in 2018 by Cole Kodsi, Timmy Kent, Mark Cheremeta and Nico Blachman. Headquartered in Pompano Beach, Fla., the four teams in the league are named after each of its founders: Team Kodsi, Team Kent, Team Cheremeta and Team Blach. A fifth team headed by Anthony Perdicaro and former NHLer Steven Kampfer––called Team Five––was added for this season.

The Ducks players and prospects playing in this league are spread out among the four original teams. Sam Colangelo and Coulson Pitre are playing for Team Kent while Tristan Luneau, Sasha Pastujov and Nathan Gaucher––a late addition for their upcoming playoff run are playing for Team Blach. Luneau was traded from Team Kodsi to Team Blach prior to the start of the season.

Trevor Zegras, Nikita Nesterenko and Noah Warren are playing for Team Kodsi while Nico Myatovic and Yegor Sidorov are playing for Team Cheremeta.

Week 1 began with games on Thursday, July 11 and Week 5 concluded this morning with a final pair of games. All games are played at Rink on the Beach, a 40,000-square-foot ice skating rink and entertainment facility.

Following four weeks of games, Myatovic was tied for third in total points (37) while Pastujov was second in points per game (2.63). Pitre checked in at fifth in points per game with 2.42.

This isn’t the first time Ducks players and prospects have competed in the SOFLO Hockey League. Returnees Pastujov and Nesterenko played last year with others like Pavel Mintyukov, Drew Helleson, Josh Lopina, Pavel Mintyukov and the aforementioned LaCombe also playing. Zegras and Leo Carlsson were late additions for the playoffs.

All games are free to view in person, but there don’t appear to be live streams of the games available to watch online. SOFLO’s YouTube channel has a handful of clips from previous games, but nothing more.
