SPFL star ‘targeted by German club’ and could team up with footie cult hero

WE know the Tartan Army will be setting off for Germany in a few days’ time for the Euros.

And a Scottish Premiership star could be following them, after a Bundesliga club has been reported to have interest in signing him.

Motherwell ace Theo Bair is, according to German outlet Die Bild, a target for newly-promoted St Pauli.

The prolific striker is also believed to have suitors in England, with two Championship sides claimed to have been monitoring the Canada international.

Bair, 24, bagged 15 goals in the Premiership for ‘Well this season – despite struggling to find his feet at the start of his time in Scotland when he moved to St Johnstone in 2022.

But he never looked back once he got up and running at Fir Park and he now could earn the Lanarkshire club a tasty pay packet.

It’s understood English clubs would fork out around £800,000 plus add-ons, bringing the total package to around £1m.

If a rival such as St Pauli are to enter the race for his signature, a transfer tug of war could push his price tag even higher.

Currently the captain of St Pauli is former Celtic cult hero Jackson Irvine, who starred for Hibernian, Ross County and Kilmarnock as well as Hull City before moving to Germany.

Speaking after the Steelmen’s final game of the season against St Johnstone, in which he missed a penalty, Bair insisted he was in no rush to move on elsewhere.

He said: “I’m happy here. The staff here are amazing.

“I’ve had a very good season so it’s about keeping going now.

“It’s been the best season of my life, but I’m looking to build on it next year.

“It’s been great. I wish as a collective we did a bit better but that’s what we build on.

“It’s going to be a big summer. It’s now on to Canada and the Copa America where we play Argentina.

“We have two friendlies against Holland and France before that.”
