St Andrews named as Scotland’s most expensive seaside town

St Andrews has been named as the most expensive location to buy a seaside home in Scotland, with the price of the average property in the popular Fife town now above £420,000.

Househunters in the town, which is the historic home of golf, can now expect to pay about £240,000 more than the average price of a coastal property in the country, according to a new report by the Bank of Scotland.

The University of St Andrews has been credited with the growing popularity of the area, but there is local criticism that the strong student presence is leading to the Americanisation of the historic town.
