Stephen Welsh Celtic injury update ahead of Rangers Scottish Cup final clash
Stephen Welsh sparked Celtic fears when he came off injured during the win over St Mirren.
The centre-back was handed a rare start for the final day clash with the title already wrapped up, but only lasted 35 minutes after making an error to allow the Buddies to score a second and take the lead again. He was replaced by Liam Scales who is almost certain to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers for the Scottish Cup final against Rangers on Saturday.
But Welsh would be a good option to have if either of those were to pull up injured in training this week or on the day. It will therefore come as good news to Brendan Rodgers and fans that his problem isn’t as serious as first feared.
The 24-year-old has had his shoulder scanned and has been given the green light to train with the team this week. The Daily Record reports that he should be able to take part in the session tomorrow.
Maik Nawrocki is another option in that position and he played the full game against St Mirren after starting alongside Welsh with the first choice duo rested for next weekend.
Welsh was today linked with a potential move away with former Hoops manager Neil Lennon reported to be interested in taking him to Romania after being appointed Rapid Bucharest boss. It was said a loan would be more likely with the defender contracted until 2027.
