Strictly’s Jamie says EastEnders co-star ‘could be swayed’ to do show

Strictly Come Dancing couple Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas swung by the It Takes Two studio for a chat with Janette Manrara on Wednesday, 23 October.

Now three days into their American Smooth training, which they’ll perform to a version of The Addams Family theme tune this weekend for the show’s scary spectacular, Manrara recalled the sight of fellow EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt cheering Borthwick and his professional partner on from the sidelines at the last show.

Almost inevitably, the It Takes Two host asked her guest if Woodyatt could be a future Glitterball contender.

Without even thinking about it, Borthwick said: “D’ya know what, I think he could be swayed to do Strictly. He really enjoyed it on Saturday and he’s been loads of times before to support loads of other people.

“I think yeah, if you gave him a little push I think he would do Strictly.”

Woodyatt, who has played Walford’s Ian Beale since the soap’s inception back in 1985, has previous when it comes to primetime reality television. Three years ago, the star appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! alongside the likes of Richard Madeley, David Ginola, Arlene Phillips and eventual winner Danny Miller.

Further into the BBC Two programme, contestant Montell Douglas revealed how she and choreographer Johannes Radebe were “still riding the wave” of last weekend after landing joint top of the leaderboard with 39 points.

Discussing the carnival-themed routine that was dedicated to her late grandmother, she told Manrara: “I never envisioned the experience to feel as impactful as it did and not just for us on the dancefloor, for everyone that watched and for the support we’ve had, it has been mind-blowing.

“Every time I watch it, you get all the feels all over again, we’re still riding the wave right now. I don’t feel like we’ve come down to be honest, I don’t ever want to. But it was just beautiful. Joyous is the word.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday (26 October) on BBC One.
