Success for baton twirlers at Scottish Championships
Dumfries Baton Twirlers have enjoyed a triumphant success in this year’s Scottish Championships.
A total of 33 athletes from the club’s competition classes attended the prestigious event run by Twirlsport Scotland in Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre over two days.
And, competing against athletes from all over Scotland, the Dumfries stars were very successful, gaining many Scottish champion titles along with lots of other podium placings and top seven awards.
Six competed in the Solo Twirl Athlete of the Year and seven in Artistic Twirl Athlete of the Year.
Poppy McDowell, aged 11, was the winner of both Solo Twirl and Artistic Twirl athlete of the year level C, while 17-year-old Drew Finnie won both Solo Twirl and Artistic Twirl Saltire Supreme Champion of Champions for elite level.
DBT had four teams compete in the team event – all placing well. Pre juvenile finished in third place; juvenile, second place; junior level B, second place; and junior level A were named Scottish champions. Two athletes, Callie Robertson and Drew Finnie, received their coaches awards.
