Teenager arrested over Scots playpark assault which left pensioner hospitalised

A teenager has been arrested by Police Scotland officers in connection with an attack on a pensioner which left him needing hospital treatment.

The youngster was detained by officers following an incident last month which left the 72-year-old suffering from serious facial injuries.

The force said today that the young man had been “arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault at playground” in Innerleithen.

The 16-year-old will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal over the incident, which is said to have taken place in the Borders town on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Police say the alleged altercation took place at a play area “at the end of Hall Street in the town” and that the victim was “treated in hospital” after being “assaulted”.

The force posted about the incident on the Police Scotland Scottish Borders Facebook page. Detective Constable Joe Carmichael of CID said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance with our investigations.”
