The ‘cosy’ Scottish beach hotel with sea views you can stay in for half price

A “cosy” Scottish hotel located just a short walk from a serene stretch of beach can currently be booked for up to 60 per cent off.

As we get closer and closer to the start of summer, it is getting harder to track down a bargain holiday. Luckily, there are still plenty of popular hotels and inns offering discounts for those after a low-cost staycation.

One of these is The Morar Hotel, a historic family-run hotel near the idyllic coastal town of Mallaig. The three-star hotel, which dates back to 1902, is home to a bar and the Silver Sands Restaurant that overlooks the Morar River Estuary.

At the moment, an overnight stay for two at the hotel can be booked for £79 through voucher website Wowcher — a discount of 55 per cent. Meanwhile, a two-night stay with a three-course dinner included is available at a 60 per cent discounted rate of £189.

The Morar Hotel is tucked between the Silver Sand Beaches and Loch Morar, so there is plenty of gorgeous scenery and walking trails to enjoy during your stay. The former are a series of breathtaking sandy beaches that offer far-reaching views out to the islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck, and Canna.

Meanwhile, all of the rooms at the hotel include amenities such as TVs, hot drink facilities, and an en-suite bathroom with toiletries and fluffy towels. You can also upgrade to a sea-view room with gorgeous vistas out across the water for an additional fee.

Looking at travel website Tripadvisor, The Morar Hotel has an average rating of 3.5 out of five, based on 622 reviews.

One recent visitor wrote: “My friend and I stayed here after a hiking and camping trip to Knoydart. We were very tired and this is the perfect place to stop off in the area for some relaxation!

“The room was big, clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was amazing, so powerful!”

A second echoed: “The hotel was really good: we entered the hall and the staff welcomed us very kindly. Then, we got to our room which it was clean, well decorated and cozy.

“For dinner, we booked a table at the hotel’s restaurant. The meal was exquisite, the staff (especially Tuan and Akram) was very welcoming and took our order quickly. On top of that, we had a view on the lake and the beach.”

On the other hand, a slightly less positive review reads: “Typical two or three-star hotel that has probably struggled a bit post covid. It was clean and the guy at check in was friendly. But our room was half the size of a Travelodge but more than twice the price.”
