And he brought on special guest Martin Compston, 40, who opened his set holding a Saltire flag.

The pair had been dining with Glaswegian chef Jimmy Lee at the Lychee Oriental in the city centre before heading out to the festival.

Addressing the packed out crowd, the Line of Duty star said: “I’m just a wee scally fae Greenock.

“And that man asked me to be here because he’s a legend.

“Let’s give some appreciation for Example.

“He’s a friend of mine, he told me the best crowds in the world are f***** Scotland.

“And tonight, we are going to prove them right again – because f*** Glastonbury” – before launching into a chant “No Scotland, No Party” with the crowd.

Martin and Example then launch into his set with noughties banger Changed the Way you Kiss Me.
