Two More Scottish Clubs Join Slicker Chase

Ross County and Partick Thistle are the latest clubs to be linked with loan interest in Blues keeper Cieran Slicker.

Earlier this month, the 21-year-old said that a spell out on loan is the next step in his development with Scottish Premiership pair Hibernian and Kilmarnock subsequently reported to be keen.

Now, according to the Scottish Sun, County, who also play in the top flight, and Scottish Championship Thistle have joined the chase for the Scotland U21 international. Hibs are said to be no longer interested but Killie remain among Slicker’s suitors.

Town’s keeper ranks could be set for a major shake-up over the summer with the Blues known to be looking for a new number one.

Vaclav Hladky, who played all bar the final couple of minutes of the 2023/24, could leave the club next week if he doesn’t accept Town’s offer of a new deal.

Christian Walton could also be moving on for first-team football having rarely featured last season. Town recently took an option to extend his contract for a further season, which would ensure a fee should the 28-year-old depart.

The Blues have been widely linked with Brighton’s former England U21 keeper Carl Rushworth, 22, who spent last season on loan at Swansea City and the previous campaign at Lincoln City, having had earlier stints with Worthing and Walsall.

We understand Rushworth, who is 6ft 2in tall, is on Town’s list of potential recruits but with claims that a move is imminent overstating the situation as it stands.

This is odd regarding Vas. Someone somewhere in the club has given him the impression, early doors, that he will be competing against a new ‘no. 1′. There’s quite a goalkeepers’ union among ex-keepers and I might be wrong that there have been too many opinions floating around but, if I’m right, then that isn’t healthy and undermines the manager’s ability to do his job and manage the squad. It’s not the level of professionalism that we’ve recently come to expect. I hope Vas can put that to one side and fight for his place in a PL team that he helped so much to get prooted, with a PL contract. I know I’m speculating.

parhamblue – the odd thing is that Rushworth isn’t very comfortable/good playing out with his feet, which you would think is a main requirement for our keepers and that Hladky is particularly comfortable with

I think that Christian Walter’s is a better keeper than Vas who only got into the first team because of CM’s injury. CM catches the ball while Vas only pushes. It away

I’m astonished that the club haven’t tied him up yet as he has been a great keeper for us these past two seasons, if a contract has been offered and not acted on then the club has to be seen to be looking at a replacement as he could walk on a free. Walton must be feeling second best having been overlooked this past season.
I think Hladky is more comfortable with distributing the ball with it at his feet, probably because he was at one point an outfield player.
