USWNT vs. Australia score, live updates: Team USA wraps up group play at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics

After a 4-1 win over Germany, The U.S. Women’s National Team is into the quarterfinals of the Olympics, but Team USA still has to wrap up group play and secure their seeding spot. Sophia Smith had a pair of goals in that win over Germany.

Team USA now turns its attention to Australia, the third ranked team in AFC heading into the Olympic tournament. The Australian side has one win and one loss in the tournament, falling to Germany in its opener, but beating Zambia in a high-scoring 6-5 contest, after trailing 4-2 at half time. The Matildas need a win or draw to stay in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals in addition to getting some help in the Germany-Zambia matchup.

The two nations met twice at the Tokyo Summer Games in 2021 — a 0-0 draw to close the group stage and a 4-3 Team USA win in the bronze medal match. Australia has never medaled at the Olympics, while the USWNT is looking for a fifth gold medal and first since 2012 in London.
