WATCH: Football fans in Inverness are rooting for Scotland ahead of Euro 2024 kick-off

People in Inverness are full of excitement and anticipation for Scotland to open the tournament against hosts Germany tomorrow night at Euro 2024.

With Scotland never having progressed past the first round in any major international tournament finals, that is a clear goal for the national team.

Many Invernessians are also rooting for Ryan Christie with the 29-year-old being an Inverness Caley Thistle academy graduate.

Additionally, there is the added personal prestige for Christie of it potentially being his 50th cap – which would put him on the Scotland international roll of honour.

When asking the public in Inverness what this honour would mean to the Highlands, one person said: “I think it’s brilliant for the Highlands, I think it shows that if you work hard and stick at training then it shows what can be achieved!

“Christie has done really, really well and I think it’s remarkable what he’s achieved so far in his career.”

Those supporting Scotland said: “We will definitely watch the game with a few pints to hand hopefully. We’re so excited to beat Germany and hopefully win the Euros as well.”

Another person added: “It would mean a lot if we won, a lot of pride. I represent Scotland amputee football and just back from the European championships, which was amazing.

“It includes everyone and it just creates such a good buzz around Scotland at the moment, and is really good fun!”
