What Philippe Clement told Rangers Women boss Jo Potter after Scottish Cup win

He might have had his own disappointments the day before, but Rangers boss Philippe Clement was delighted for the women’s team and their manager Jo Potter as they lifted the Scottish Cup.

Just 24 hours earlier, the Belgian had lost out to Celtic in the final of the men’s version of the competition in heartbreaking fashion, a late Adam Idah goal after periods of Gers dominance. But the manager was able to put it behind him, dust himself down and support the club’s women’s team on the Sunday.

Potter’s side took on Hearts in the final and ran out 2-0 winners thanks to strikes from Rachel McLauchlan and Lizzie Arnot. Despite his own hurt a day previous, Clement was thrilled and also saw it as a positive thing from the club as a whole to be bringing in silverware.

The two Gers managers were seen in dialogue and Potter was asked what message he had given her.

She explained: “He said it was good for him to be able to come and watch us lift the trophy. The same with John Bennett (Rangers chairman). He said it’s super important for the club to be able to have us winning trophies and being here to experience that with us.

“It means a lot to them and you can see it means a lot to them when they speak to us, being in attendance at these games, showing faith in us all season and the backing they’ve given us. It’s disappointing the result they had yesterday but again on the same breath he’s saying it’s super important and super proud to be able to see us lift that trophy today.”
