What will the weather be like at Glastonbury this year?
Music fans have begun pitching their tents for this year’s Glastonbury Festival after the gates opened up on Wednesday morning.
Organiser Emily Eavis welcomed the first festival-goers to the event at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, as the sun rose on another hot day in the UK. Festivities will get underway across the 900-acre site before the music begins on the main Pyramid Stage on Friday, with Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Sza set to headline the main stage.
Away from the music, one of the main things that may be on revellers’ minds will be the weather forecast for the weekend. In previous years, rain has descended on the festival and resulted in severe mud and difficult camping conditions.
This year, the Met Office predicts it should remain “largely dry and cloudy” for the next few days – but festival-goers may see light showers throughout the run of the festival. Temperatures of 27C are expected as the first arrivals put up their tents.
Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop said: “From Friday to Sunday it will remain largely dry and cloudy, with the potential for lighter showers across the weekend. Conditions will be slightly above average between 18C and 21C.”
The Met Office said the Glastonbury area will see temperatures between 25C and 27C on Wednesday, the busiest day for arrivals on the site, when queues of cars line the country roads surrounding Worthy Farm.
