White Sox ‘insisting’ on Yankees’ prospect Spencer Jones in any potential Garrett Crochet trade: report

Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet is likely to be the most impactful pitcher moved at this year’s MLB trade deadline, but if the Yankees, or any other team, want to land the 25-year-old, it’s going to be very costly.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that White Sox are “insisting” that power-hitting outfield prospect Spencer Jones be included in any potential trade package for their prized pitcher.

Nightengale also reports that while rival GMs are uncertain if Crochet will be traded, Chicago still “fully intends” to deal him, and that a recent offer from the San Diego Padres was “quickly dismissed.”

This reporting falls in line with what SNY contributor John Harper has heard from those in the know, with scouts saying that Jones or pitching prospect Chase Hampton would likely have to be involved in any trade for Crochet, given that he still has two more years of team control.

Jones, who represented the Yankees at the 2024 All-Star Futures Game, is the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees’ system and the No. 74 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old former first-round pick got off to a slower start this season for Double-A Somerset, but he does have 10 home runs in 73 games with the Patriots.

Crochet has been used as a starter by Chicago this season after being used exclusively as a reliever over the course of his first 72 career outings. In 20 starts, Crochet has pitched to a 3.02 ERA with a whopping 150 strikeouts in 107.1 innings.
