Fiona Harvey, 48, is a woman from Scotland who claims that the character of Martha Scott in the Netflix show ‘Baby Reindeer’ is based on her. Created by Richard Gadd, the show is a fictionalised version of Gadd’s experience with a real-life stalker, named Martha Scott in the show and played by Jessica Gunning.
However, Fiona Harvey has come forward claiming that the character of Martha is based on her and said she wanted to ‘set the record straight’ by putting her version of the story out.
She spoke to prominent British TV show Piers Morgan for an interview, which was put up on Morgan’s YouTube channel, titled ‘The Real Martha Uncensored.’ In the show, she said that she is a law graduate and is in a relationship with a lawyer for the past six years.
“On the internet, sleuths tracked me down and hounded me and gave me death threats,” she told Morgan in the interview. So it wasn’t really a choice. I was forced into this situation.”
She said her parents separated when she was just nine years old, and she hasn’t had a conversation with her mother about the turmoil since then.
Gadd, however, said that he did not want to identify the stalker and hence for ‘artistic and legal reasons’ fictionalized her name to Martha Scott.
“We’ve gone to such great lengths to disguise her to the point that I don’t think she would recognize herself. What’s been borrowed is an emotional truth, not a fact-by-fact profile of someone,” he told GQ in an interview.
Fiona said that that Gadd likely suffers from severe mental health issues. She claimed that his portrayal was exaggerated and fictional, with only two factual details: his name, Richard Gadd, and his job as a barman at the Hawley Arms, where they had met a few times.
