Yankees add recently acquired RHP Enyel De Los Santos to active roster
The Yankees have officially added recently acquired right-hander Enyel De Los Santos to the active roster ahead of Friday night’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Looking to pick up some swing-and-miss arms ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, New York was able to land De Los Santos in a last minute deal with the San Diego Padres.
The hope is that him and Mark Leiter Jr., who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs, will help provide the team with a boost in the later innings down the stretch.
De Los Santos has been a reliable backend reliever throughout his six-year big-league tenure, but he’s been plagued by the long ball this season, allowing a career-high 11 across 40.1 innings of work.
The veteran has also been struggling of late, pitching to a brutal 7.62 ERA over his last 14 appearances, resulting in him quickly losing the trust of Padres manager Mike Shildt.
De Los Santos has been able to generate an impressive 32.5 percent whiff rate and a 28.2 percent K-rate, so perhaps Yanks pitching coach Matt Blake will be able to help regain his dominant form.
