Yankees trading for Marlins OF Jazz Chisholm Jr.
The Yankees made their first 2024 trade deadline deal, acquiring outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins, SNY’s Andy Martino reports.
New York will send three prospects back to Miami in the deal, per multiple reports.
Chisholm Jr. has been a sparkplug for the Marlins since his debut in 2020 playing primarily second base and outfield in his five seasons in South Beach.
In 2024, Chisholm Jr. is slashing .249/.323/.407 with a .730 OPS to go along with his 13 home runs and 50 RBI. He’s also stolen 22 bases.
It’s unclear how exactly the Yankees will deploy Chisholm Jr., especially with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo manning the outfield this season. Other than outfield, the 26-year-old has played second base (167 games) and shortstop (46 games) in his career but hasn’t started in the infield regularly since 2022. He did make two starts at second this season.
The Yankees (60-45) have needed help in the infield, particularly at third base, but with Verudgo’s extended struggles, he could give the Bronx Bombers some left-handed stability in the lineup. Chisholm Jr. can also slide over to second base against right-handed pitching in place of Gleyber Torres.
